A residential house in the Austrian Alps was completed in 1999 and represents the reconstruction of an unheated stone structure, which was formerly used only in summertime.
During the reconstruction, we preserved as much of the old walls made of rough stone as possible. In order not to disassemble, these had to be cut off from the foundation, and a waterproofing stainless steel layer was installed. Then the masonry was winterized and a spacious second floor was built using wooden structures.
The building is equipped with the latest technologies. The heating system using wood pellets automatically maintains the desired room temperature and can operate autonomously for weeks. The solar collectors fully recouped their cost during the first seven years of operation.
In this small, in terms of floor space, house, we created a system of spacious well-lit spaces. Double-height living room features an open staircase to the second floor. The fireplaces in the living room and recreation room were made with the help of a ceramist-sculptor.
The house was designed and built in 1998-1999 by the Hausbauplus Bureau. All stages of the design and supervision: A. Al-Samarrai, D. Kats.
